26th annual Zonta Christmas home tour is Saturday - Porterville Recorder
Nostalgic, forever dream home, romantic, farmhouse and mediterranean.
The five homes on the 26th Annual Home Tour run the gamut with no two alike. Zonta proudly presents amazing homes and a Boutique like none other to welcome the holiday season. Zonta Club of Porterville thanks the homeowners for graciously opening their homes for this special tour.
Gail and Bob Nuckols’ home is warm and inviting. They recently remodeled their home without destroying the history and charm. From Grandma’s tea cup collection, the “White” sewing machine, the Roy Rogers “Trigger” rocking horse to Gail’s impressive cookbook collection, there are so many nods to the Nuckols history you won’t see them all. The gourmet kitchen features a lovely pounded antique copper tiled arch over the stove. And the stained glass! Two stained glass windows from the original farmhouse in the kitchen and in the living room, two huge windows look down from the cathedral ceiling. Every room sports a Christmas tree, every room.
Crystan and Monica Chavez found their forever dream home in a new subdivision just south of Linda Vista off Newcomb. The impressive and ornate double glass doors lead to a grand foyer. Flanking the foyer is an office and a dining room. The great room features an angled fireplace and coffered ceiling. The open state-of-art kitchen extends into a butler’s pantry with more cupboards and storage. The spacious Master Suite overlooks the entertainer’s back yard with pool, spa and pergola. A special treat is their sons’ colorful room decorated in “Snoopy Christmas”.
Oh my, the home of Richard and Teresa Hardt harkens back to a romantic Spanish Revival home. Built in 1934, the Hardt’s are renovating to bring it to its former glory. This gem starts with an original front door with a speakeasy and clavos. The entry boasts original art work from Justin Manning as well as other local artists. An elegant Christmas tree graces the living room and an endearing tree in the family room is loaded with meaningful ornaments. The dining room features an elaborate 1800’s antique hand carved Spanish table set with Christmas china. The kitchen is a feast for the eyes with a French chandelier, vintage terra cotta roosters and a Spanish Revival floor lamp. The tour continues to the back yard to the pool and “Dentist” adorned barn.
The adorable farmhouse owned by Skip and Cheryl Sonksen is a true 1932 Tudor Farmhouse treasure. There are so many unique features its awe inspiring. The baby grand piano and antique textured fireplace share space with the family Christmas tree in the living room. An original heirloom chair that traveled by covered wagon, sliding barn door and original “picture hanging molding” are of special note. The cozy wood stove in the dining room leads to a wonderful retro kitchen. The black and white square floor, farmhouse sink, original cabinets and bead board ceiling is adjacent to Cheryl’s arts and crafts room. The many collectables adorn walls and shelves. Exit through the French doors to the top floor of the carriage house. This is Skip’s music/man cave/pub complete with Lederhosen and steins.
Blaine and Sharron Sanders’ Mediterranean estate sits in River Island East. Almost every room overlooks the golf course and the river that runs through it. Every inch of this glorious home has been thoughtfully adorned. Sharron makes the wreaths and has created much of the artwork throughout. The rotating Christmas tree is filled with ornaments and doggie angels. A rustic cabinet hosts and collection of Santas and a beautiful corner fireplace completes the room. The gorgeous chef’s kitchen has pops of red complimenting the decorations atop rustic wood cabinetry. A silver jewel branch tree, a charming Christmas Village and an ornate 3-dimensional angel art piece lead to a fainting couch. In the sitting room you will find two exquisite original paintings both done by Sharron. Her “she-shed” is filled with white fluffy, furry, fantastic pillows and the walls are adorned with angels and wonderful things.
